Art is her Passion

Gabriella Di Salvo is a passionate artist. Her unadulterated and unspoiled pictures appear not to be obliged to anything. Her works step out self-confidentially and speak their own language. The polished artist uses pieces, colors, pictures and different material to transform them into her own creation. A lot of it may seem familiar yet but she manages to use the well-known means of expression to lead us through unknown paths. With Gabriella Di Salvo we discover a new grammar of color and shape. If we get involved in her pictures she leads us to her very own expressiveness.

It is typical for Gabriella to on the one hand have a distinctive sense of beauty and to be on the other hand uncompromising and to have this love of freedom. She wishes for love and harmony but she does not want to acknowledge anything as given. Steadfastly she defends her freedom. Gabriella is both aesthete and rebellion.

But the combination of beauty and rebellion as well as of harmony and suspense seems to be incompatible. How could we talk about them at the same time? With her pictures, the artist has found a very personal way of showing the observers how to harmonise these opposites.

The German poet “Rilke” writes in his first Duinesian Elegy: “the beauty is nothing but the beginning of the dreadful, which we can just bear…”. How unbearable it would be to live on the scale-pan of the aesthete, of the beautiful picture in its destructive ennui, its unbearable regularity, its vain perfection? Gabriella Di Salvo, the rebel would say: “It’s only against the beauty that we can live.” She would fight the appearances with graffitis, earthy colours and splashes of blood.

But in her heart, in the darkest mist and in the loudest bang of a pistol there remains the longing for harmony, for love. And in a somnambulistic way the artist succeeds in combining the well-known means of expression to picture-phrases with which she guides us. With the burning torch of the revolutionary she goes ahead and leads us in her pictures in a new world of everlasting beauty.
